The Gentleman and the Maid by Martha Keyes

 

Determination and hard work help Glenna Douglas rise above poverty and improve her lot in life.  Along the way, she learns to trust love and shows compassion on all those around her.  I have read the other books in this series previously, and I loved the updates on the other characters sprinkled throughout. Well developed characters, a vivid setting, and an interesting storyline, among other things, made this book a pleasure to visit.
